Race L'Etape. Ride the Pyrenees. See the Tour de France.

9 days immersed in the Tour!

This trip delivers a complete Tour de France immersion.  First, you'll experience a Tour challenge of your own, riding the 145km  L’Etape du Tour cyclosportive, tracing the mountainous stage 18 of the 2014 Tour.  Then you’ll experience the real Tour de France live as it races through the Pyrenees.  9 full days of fantastic Pyrenees cycling, immersed in the Tour!

DuckStore will properly prepare and support you for L'Etape where you'll conquer two classic Pyrenean climbs, the Tourmalet and Hautacam. Then, we’ll transfer east to a fantastic auberge in Luchon at the base of SuperBagnères, the perfect setting to recover while experience some more incredible Pyrenees cycling.  We’ll see the Tour roll into town, experiencing a stage finish at our doorstep, and watch another stage the following day.  And in between they'll of course be plenty of time for some great rides and relaxing cafés.

DAY 1 - Wednesday July 16, 2014  

Arrival and Welcome - Arriving at Pau Airport, we’ll pick you up in our vans for the drive into the foothills of the Pyrenees and our first guesthouse.  We’ll settle in, build up our bikes and take a brisk spin around the “small” hills to pedal out the cobwebs, before dinner at the hotel.  30k / 250m climbing

DAY 2 - Thursday July 17

L’Etape Recon. and Tourmalet -- Today we’ll start a two-day, thorough reconnaissance of the L’Etape du Tour course by bike and/or van.  En route, we’ll stop for a quick snack at the famous cyclists’s café at the summit of the Tourmalet.   115km / 1,650m climbing

DAY 3 – Friday July 18

Spin & Relax - Not wanting to tire ourselves too much we’ll get out and ride while also keeping an eye to preserve energy.  Leaving from our guesthouse our route will take us on some of curviest roads you’ll ever see.  The afternoon will be for resting and relaxing

DAY 4 – Saturday July 19 

Race registration & Bike prep - Today's major activity is picking-up the race bibs, prepare bikes, nutrition and rest for the big challenge.  The race start is a 50 km round trip which should serve as a perfect warm up to keep the legs spinning.
Then we'll have an easy to digest comfort food dinner before a good night’s sleep.

DAY 5 – Sunday July 20 

L’Etape du Tour - Race day!  We’ve arranged an early breakfast to eat and digest well before the 7am start. Our hotel is a  25 minute drive from the start.  We’ll park in a quiet spot near the start in ample time for any last minute preparations.  During L’Etape, DuckStore will support you with two private nutrition stations.   148km / 3320m climbing

DAY 6 – Monday July 21

Recovery and rafting - No need to wake up early today!  The effort of L'Etape still in our legs, after breakfast we’ll take a leisurely spin down the Luchon valley for a rafting float down the Garonne river.  Next activity will be a wonderful DuckStore picnic before returning to Luchon by bike or van.  Time in the afternoon to shop and explore Luchon.    27km / 150m climbing

DAY 7 – Tuesday July 22

Tour de France Stage 16 Finish - Refreshed after our rest day, we'll head out to enjoy more amazing climbs that feature this year’s Tour.  A good loop right from the hotel would take us into Spain and up the Col de Portillon which would drop us right in back in Luchon.  . We'll soak in the festive atmosphere, riding by campers and fans setting up for tomorrow’s stage.  Back in Luchon for lunch we'll feel the emotion build as this small town is transformed by the Tour peloton's arrival.   80km / 950m climbing

DAY 8 – Wednesday July 23 

Tour de France Stage 17 - Once again the Tour stage will pass through Luchon.  We can either stay in town to see it pass through, or ride up the Col de Peyresourde to experience the craziness and of the Tour stage going over a pass. Either way, we'll experience the international fan-festival, he publicity parade, the see the Tour riders up close.  Then we'll coast back to our villa for a final dinner to celebrate an amazing week of cycling in the Pyrenees.  60km / 1050m climbing

DAY 9 – Thursday July 24  

Au Revoir - After one last breakfast outside to the sounds of singing birds, it’s time to say “Au revoir, et à Bientôt”.  We’ll shuttle you to the Pau airport where you can catch your flight home.
